Credit union efficiency ratio
Non-interest (operating) expense divided by net interest income plus non-interest income: the standard industry efficiency ratio (NCUA's FPR does not publish one). Lower means fewer cents spent to earn each dollar of revenue. The median across all 4,296 credit unions reporting it was 78.15% for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. Among those with $100 million or more in assets, the middle half ran from 67.73% to 82.75% (median 75.77%).
Why it matters
The efficiency ratio shows how many cents a credit union spends to earn each dollar of revenue. NCUA's Financial Performance Report does not publish one; this is the standard industry definition.
